Description

Alpen Retro Winter Booties are just the fashionable footwear you need for your winter vintage outfits. These booties are based on original Montgomery Ward overshoes, also known as galoshes, but are made as regular boots. We've stayed faithful to the velveteen upper and houndstooth lining, opting to use ethically sourced sheepskin trim and leather foxing and heel. These beautiful boots are cozy and practical for winter wear, with rubber soling.

Nearly Perfect

I got these during the summer sale and kept them though slightly snug banking on my foot being smaller in the winter. I've now worn them at least a dozen times and they fit perfectly! They have been amazing in icy and mildly snowy weather and honestly don't even feel like I'm wearing heels.
My one recommendation would be to have the tongue be attached at the sides like a hiking shoe is so I could walk through more than an inch of snow without worrying about water getting in the shoe.
100% plan on getting another pair.

I love these boots!

Comfortable, adorable, winter, perfection! I feel like I’m in a 1950s musical about Christmas every time I put them on!

Comfortable

I really like these boots. I got the red/ivory option. They are super pretty and really give off Christmas vibes to me, but are able to be styled in everyday outfits easily. The only bad thing is that after one wear some of the red finish on the tip of the toe got scuffed. I was just going shopping, so I'm not sure where it would have happened. It was a little disappointing, but the American Dutches Customer Service was super helpful when I contacted them. I love the boots, so I didn't return them but I plan on only getting shoes with a coresponding luster cream in the future. That way scuffes will be easier to cover in the future.

So Many Compliments!

I ordered the navy/ivory in 9.5, I usually fall in the middle of 9.5-10 in US sizing. Fit was perfect. These are sturdy yet sleek, nice thick sole, comfy, warm, and drizzle-proof. Wouldn't wear them in a downpour, but perfect for a bit of dry snow. So stylish, pair beautifully with tights/stockings, and give a little fuzzy vintage flair to every outfit. Highly recommend!

Fun! Cute! and (mostly) Practical!

I dithered too long about sizing to get the red/black. (Bring back someday!) Because I have awkward feet--basically size 7 length but a little wide for standard width but not wide enough for women's wide (or men's standard width). So I ordered both 7 and 7.5 (red/ivory for fun and black/black for practicality) figuring whichever didn't fit would go back. 7.5 fit more comfortably so the 7 went back--but because husband thought they were cute (and we get enough rain around here) they were exchanged for next size up.

Applied the stain/water repellent because --it rains around here, and let's keep these nice. First time I wore one pair out was actually over base rock (early stage of country road being built) and snow. They did fine, though I wouldn't recommend walking on base rock as a regular thing.

Yes, as mentioned in another review, the lacing system is different. There's a reason for it. And it's not that hard to get used to. What I don't like is where the spacing between the cross-lacing hits leave a gap between the tongue and the front ankle. Wasn't a problem as such, just didn't feel as secure as I'm used to.

The padding and lining are comfortable. The fur is fun and cozy. The rubber sole has a fine texture for improved traction on wet, slippery surfaces. Heel height is great for those of us who can't do the 2+ inch heel heights.
